5 Poems of Snow, Winter, and Brewing

Brewed Beverage of Choice: A cup of Kai Hua Long Ding Tea…and then later a glass of Walking Man Knuckle Dragger

#1

Outside the brewery,
Snow!
Its weight, texture,
and its delicate path of descent,
reminiscent of Lakefront winters.

#2

Inside, the mash rests.
Outside, a different intoxication.
I sip some tea, gazing
at the fallen snow, wondering,
“Do you see it too?”

#3

Monk and snow!
Rhythm in hibernation.
The brewery today: a cavern.
Its bedroom warmth
lost without your presence.

#4

The snowy sound of Lester Young,
a complement to the day.
The pines hear it,
as do the finches.
My winter companions.

#5

O! Playful snow!
Today you taunt!
We can enjoy the warmth
of a pint as day departs.
Now I must tend the mash.

Prosit!
